Facebook shares slip on report of widened probe into Cambridge Analytica scandal

U.S. agencies widen investigation into what Facebook knew about Cambridge Analytica

The investigation involves three agencies including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Washington Post report said.

The FTC previously released a statement after the Cambridge Analytica news broke in March that it had an "open, non-public investigation" into the privacy practices of Facebook.

The company said it had received questions from the FBI, the SEC, the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice in relation to its relationship with Cambridge Analytica. Numerous answers have rehashed bits of information that are already public, but in its most recent 700-page document dump, Facebook revealed data sharing partnerships it made with other apps.

Investigators are also keen to discover if there are any discrepancies in recent accounts and are believed to be scrutinizing CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his colleagues' Capitol Hill testimonies as part of the expanded probe.
