British woman dies after Novichok nerve agent poisoning

Police officer in hospital over Novichok exposure fears'given all clear

Dawn Sturgess, a United Kingdom woman who was exposed to the Novichok nerve agent, has died.

Sturgess' partner Charlie Rowley, 45, remains critically ill in hospital. Mr Rowley, 45, remains in a critical condition.

Dawn Sturgess, a 44-year-old mother of three, died on Sunday from contact with the same military-grade toxin that almost killed a former Russian spy and his daughter in an attack that Britain blamed on Moscow.

Police said Sunday they were not yet able to say whether the nerve agent was from the same batch that the Skripals were exposed to.

Police in HAZMAT suits as they investigate the poisoning of two people in Salisbury.

The investigation into the nerve agent attacks is being led by Britain's Counter Terrorism Policing Network, and the police said around 100 detectives were working round the clock alongside colleagues from Wiltshire police.

8 out of 13 now rescued from Thailand cave
The group was found nine days later in a cramped chamber 2.5 miles inside the cave system by two British volunteer rescue divers . Four fellow teammates and their coach , Ekaphol Chantawong, remain inside, with hopes that they will be rescued on Tuesday.

Basu said that Sturgess leaves behind three children, and offered thoughts and prayers for the woman's family.

The British government has accused Russian Federation of poisoning the Skripals but Moscow has denied any involvement in either incident.

Britain has blamed Moscow for the attack on the Skripals.

Williamson was asked in parliament about the threat facing people in Britain after the death of Dawn Sturgess on Sunday.

British Prime Minister Theresa May demanded that the Russian government explain how a nerve agent it had developed during the Cold War had ended up on British soil.

Counterterrorism police are also studying roughly 1,300 hours of closed circuit television footage in hopes of finding clues about the couple's activities in the hours before they became violently ill.

However, Peskov also said he was unaware of anybody linking Moscow with this month's poisoning of a couple in Amesbury, which comes four months after Sergei and Yulia Skripal were poisoned with the same substance in nearby Salisbury.

Public Health England insists the overall risk to the public of being poisoned by the nerve agent is low.

A representative from Salisbury district hospital said staff "worked tirelessly to save Dawn". A police sergeant involved in the investigation was hospitalised and released.

"It's Britain's problem and the problem of how interested Britain is in a real investigation", he said.

Public Health England, which oversees public health and epidemiological surveillance, said the risk to the general public "remains low", but advised against picking up odd items like needles, syringes, and unusual containers.

Britain's defence minister said on Monday (Jul 9) that the death of a homeless British woman from exposure to the nerve agent Novichok was down to Russian Federation. The Russian embassy in South Africa, meanwhile, tweeted that the poisoning was more likely to have been caused from a leak by Porton Down, the U.K.'s military research laboratory.
