Kavanaugh for the Court

"He's a brilliant jurist with a clear and effective writing style, universally regarded as one of the finest and sharpest legal minds of our time".

"Throughout legal circles he's considered a judge's judge, a true thought leader among his peers", Trump said at the White House. But he has a comparatively thin record of judicial opinions and some conservatives have voiced concerns that he could turn out to be similar to Justice David Souter, who was appointed to the court by President George H.W. Bush but sometimes sided with the court's liberals. Some conservative activists have questioned whether he would rule sufficiently aggressively as a justice.

This is Mr Trump's second appointment to the highest court in the land, potentially allowing him to shape the U.S. for a generation after he leaves office.

Multiple sources tell ABC News that as of Sunday, the final four individuals Trump is considering for the vacancy are Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Raymond Kethledge and Thomas Hardiman. He also stressed that the constitution must be interpreted "as written - informed by history and tradition and precedent".

"Judge Kavanaugh has impeccable credentials, unsurpassed qualifications and a proven commitment to equal justice under the law", he said separately, adding later: "This incredibly qualified nominee deserves a swift confirmation and robust, bipartisan support".

They are hoping to persuade Republican Senate moderates to vote against Kavanaugh.

On the television beside him is what appears to be National Basketball Association 2k18, though we can't confirm this. In his hands was a PS4 controller, and a phone on his lap plugged into what appears to be a portable charger.

After earning undergraduate and law degrees at Yale, he was a Kennedy law clerk in the early 1990s before joining independent counsel Kenneth Starr's team, where Kavanaugh co-wrote the report that served as the basis for President Bill Clinton's impeachment. Kavanaugh in 2009 changed his tune on the Starr probe, arguing that presidents should be free from civil lawsuits, criminal prosecutions and investigations while in office. Both senators backed Gorsuch's nomination.

The nomination and confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court was the first in a series of judicial appointments by President Trump fulfilling the promise of candidate Trump.

Kavanaugh has been viewed somewhat skeptically by some conservatives, who have scrutinized his ties to the Bushes and his long career inside the Beltway, the proverbial "swamp".

Groups that support abortion rights are planning a "Day of Action" for August 26, the anniversary of the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.

Kennedy, 81, announced on June 27 plans to retire after three decades on the court, effective on July 31.

Jones' position could be critical to Kavanaugh's confirmation as the Republicans hold only a 51-49 advantage in the Senate.

FDA: Parasites In Del Monte Vegetables Causing ‘Explosive’ Diarrhea
All sizes had best-by dates of June 17 or earlier, so officials say there is little chance anyone still has any of the products. More than 200 people have now been infected by an outbreak of parasites linked to recalled vegetable trays from Del Monte.

The Senate must confirm Trump's nominee by a majority vote. Republicans meanwhile are lobbying the White House on behalf of their preferred candidate. As a woman and mother, she could upend the narrative pushed by Democrats that Trump's pick would erode women's rights.

Trump is said to have apparently lost interest in Kethledge.

With President Trump about to make his Supreme Court nomination, one top Democrat is so anxious he's urging his colleagues to put the country before their own careers.

The new justice can be expected to cast crucial votes on other matters of national importance including gay rights, gun control, the death penalty and voting rights. "Let's just say it's the four people".

A right-leaning court could also overturn a 2016 affirmative-action ruling that held that universities can count the race of visible-minority applicants in their favour when deciding who to admit.

It may not also be his last, with liberal Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg 85-years-old and Stephen Breyer turning 80 next month.
