Trump rails against Germany, demands allies double North Atlantic Treaty Organisation spending

Donald Trump says Germany is 'totally controlled by Russia' at Nato summit

The Trump administration is now trying to derail a German-Russian project to double the capacity of the underwater Nord Stream gas pipeline.

Former secretary of state John Kerry blasted President Trump's criticism of Germany in a lengthy statement on Wednesday morning as "strange", "counterproductive", and "disgraceful".

The Commander-in-Chief called-out the Chancellor at the onset of the worldwide summit in Brussels; saying "It's very sad when Germany makes a massive oil and gas deal with Russian Federation where we're supposed to be guarding against Russian Federation".

Meanwhile, the last two games for Croatia , against Denmark and Russian Federation , ended the same: with Croatia winning in penalties.

"I don't think we're going to be changing defence policy on the back of Tony Abbott's commentary on the US-Australia alliance", Senator McKeznie told Sky News. Must pay 2 per cent of GDP IMMEDIATELY, not by 2025.

"Now we have to rebuild that democracy and strengthen it. North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is going to take a significant role in that, and Canada is going to commit 250 troops, a number of helicopters, and we are actually offering to command that mission for the first year", Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced at the summit.

"President Trump wants to see our allies share more of the burden and at a very minimum meet their already stated obligations,"said Sanders. And the meeting next week in Helsinki between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will confirm that Ukraine is on the frontline of European and transatlantic politics", the president wrote".

Eight boys rescued from cave in northern Thailand
Ninety divers-40 from Thailand and 50 from global group of divers-are part of the rescue operation though not all have gone in. The aide, Sitthichai Klangpattana, refused to comment on the boys' health or the operation, which has wrapped up for the day.

U.S. ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison urged allies to look beyond Trump's rhetoric and focus on the summit declaration for the alliance's future work - which the United States is expected to back. And she said she expected Trump to recommit to one of the founding articles of NATO - Article 5 - which holds that an attack on one member is an attack on them all. "We're supposed to protect you against Russian Federation but they're paying billions of dollars to Russian Federation and I think that's very inappropriate". Arms crossed over his chest, Trump gestured at Stoltenberg and repeatedly interrupted the secretary-general as he argued his case.

The president said that Germany is "totally controlled by Russian Federation because they will be getting from 60 to 70 percent of their energy from Russian Federation and a new pipeline". And it is nuts to claim Germany is under Russia's thumb when Chancellor Angela Merkel has been the most outspoken European leader in standing up to Putin. The pointed criticism is likely related to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Trump said he had a "very, very good relationship" with Merkel, who described the two as "good partners".

United States officials have said Washington is planning a strategic review, a year after Mr Trump agreed to remain involved in the 17-year-long conflict. The US has been lobbying EU countries to reject the pipeline for years, arguing that it is a threat to the European Union's energy security. "So adding Nord Stream 2 is not adding a new capability of supplying gas that doesn't exist", Kurt Volcker, the US special representative for Ukraine negotiations, said on May 24. "We are one of the guarantors of the free world and that will stay that way".
