Scores injured in traffic protests in Bangladesh capital

More than 100 students hurt during violent standoffs with police in Bangladesh, hospital says - but police deny anything happened

We want guarantee of natural death, " Mohammad Selim, a 10th grader, told dpa while holding placard that said "We want justice". They include strict enforcement of traffic laws, ensuring safe roads and eradicating corruption in the transport sector.

Here is how the story unfolded.

The crowded capital of 18 million has been paralyzed by angry students demanding changes to transport laws following the July 29 deaths after the driver of a privately operated bus lost control and ran over a group of college students in an alleged race for passengers with another bus.

The buses started to leave from Gabtoli, Mohakhali and Saidabad terminals in the capital and others districts at night.

Thousands of students and adults have been out on Dhaka's roads stopping traffic and checking vehicles over the last one week after a speeding bus killed two students.

Defying government warnings to end the protests, students in school uniforms have blocked most of Dhaka's roads, setting up checkpoints that let through only emergency vehicles. Some other groups also took to the streets in other parts of Dhaka.

Students then stopped thousands of vehicles - including those of top officials and judges - demanding to see if the cars were registered and the drivers licensed.

"We don't want to be killed on road crash".

At first, Cruz said that he did not even remember how he had gotten to Stoneman Douglas to carry out his rampage. The transcript also noted that Cruz also had talked to himself aloud about his own desire to die.

How did things turn violent?

On the day, nearly no city service buses were seen on the streets in Dhaka and Sirajganj while CNG-run auto-rickshaws, taxicabs and rickshaws and even ridesharing services were charging extra from passengers.

Police said they did not have an immediate explanation as to why the USA ambassador came under attack. Activists say at least four people have been injured.

The BCL were also blamed for attacks on journalists - including the destruction of phones and cameras - which the Daily Star newspaper called a "reprehensible violation" of press freedom.

Armed men attacked a convoy of cars carrying the United States envoy to Bangladesh in the capital Dhaka on Saturday night, USA officials said.

On Sunday, prominent activist and renowned photographer Shahidul Alam was detained over Facebook posts commenting on the protests.

Twelve were treated at Dhaka Medical Colleague Hospital, police inspector Bacchu Mia told AFP.

How have the students organised themselves?

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has effectively gone on strike to try and force through a move away from the Spanish giants. The 32-year-old, whose current contract is expected to run until 2020, joined the Champions League holders in 2012.

Footage of the attack on social media showed him surrounded and beaten by almost a dozen men in the city's Dhanmondi neighbourhood.

Activists have also taken to social media in droves to call on local and global media organisations to cover the story.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the bill will be submitted to Parliament soon for passage.

The protests come just months before general elections scheduled for December and follow another series of protests in Dhaka this past spring.

Meanwhile, telecommunications companies were ordered to suspend 3G and 4G services for a period of 24 hours on late Saturday.

Ms Hasina on Sunday urged the students to go home.

The Shujan secretary, however, said they were unable to identify any of the attackers, or tell if they had been waiting to attack the U.S. envoy's vehicle, or happened to be just passing by.
