If You Consume Alcohol, Must Know This Biggest Myth About It!

Globally one in three people drink alcohol – equivalent to 2.4 billion people

It was the leading risk factor for disease worldwide, the study found, accounting for nearly 10 percent of deaths among those ages 15 to 49.

Cancers were the leading cause of alcohol-related deaths among those 50 and older that year.

David Spiegelhalter, Winton Professor for the Public Understanding of Risk at the University of Cambridge, also took issue with the findings, citing in a blog post some methodological concerns he identified in the study.

Although the authors acknowledge that previous research has suggested a beneficial link between moderate drinking and heart health, they say any benefits are outweighed by the risk of cancer and other diseases.

The researchers drew on more than 1,000 studies to compile a picture of alcohol's health impacts and drinking habits among men and women around the world.

Senator John McCain has died
McCain was taken prisoner and stayed in an infamous prison known as the "Hanoi Hilton". "I have lost a wonderful friend". Asked how he wanted to be remembered, McCain said: "That I made a major contribution to the defence of the nation".

The Lancet Health Journal released a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded study Thursday that drew data from people aged 15 to 95 from 195 locations over the time period of 1990 to 2016.

Going teetotal is the only way to avoid risking health problems with alcohol, scientists have claimed.

.

Alcohol led to 2.8 million deaths in 2016, according to the report.

"It is unrealistic to suggest that people should just stop drinking; however, it is important that there is an overall better awareness about the HSE low-risk guidelines".

The researchers calculated that people who have one standard drink (10 grams of pure alcohol) a day have a 0.5 percent higher risk of one of 23 alcohol-related health problems than teetotalers.

Moreover, U.K. citizens living in the European Union could lose access to U.K. banking and pensions services. Stephen Kelly, chief executive of Manufacturing NI last night described the advice as "extraordinary".

The deaths included alcohol-related cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, intentional injuries such as violence and self-harm, traffic collisions and unintentional injuries like drowning and fires.

"The health risks associated with alcohol are massive", said the report's senior author Dr Emmanuela Gakidou. "The myth that one or two drinks a day are good for you is just that - a myth".

According to the study, 2.4 billion people around the world consume alcohol on a regular basis, including 1.5 billion males and 0.9 billion females.

The results appear to fly in the face of research that indicates moderate drinking - in the United States, that's one drink a day for women and two a day for men - might reduce the risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

But Dr Wai, who regularly sees patients with liver-related problems, said it can be hard to estimate how much patients actually drink as many lie to their doctors for fear their medical bills will be rejected by insurance companies. "They will go some weeks not drinking anything", he said.

Among men, drinking alcohol in 2016 was the most widespread in Denmark, along with Norway, Argentina, Germany and Poland. A lot of them relied on self-reported information, which means people have to remember their drinking habits accurately, which means the data might be flawed or inaccurate, according to CBS. The recommendations need to come down further and the government needs to rethink its policy. "And that the safest level, from a health perspective, is not drinking at all".
