Age Limit Removed In New Expert Recommendations For Children's Car Seats

America's pediatricians have updated their safety guidelines for rear-facing car seats

Heads up, parents: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has updated its guidelines on how long children should stay in rear-facing auto seats.

For years experts have recommended that kids use rear-facing auto seats until they're two years old.

Once kids outgrow a rear-facing seat, they should use a forward-facing safety seat with a harness until they reach its height and weight limits.

"We honest actual don't include a honorable ample set of files to uncover with straightforward job at what age it's most gather to expose formative years to be forward-going through", Dr. Benjamin Hoffman, chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Damage, Violence and Poison Prevention Executive Committee, added in a commentary.

United Nations panel calls on Suu Kyi to use her "moral authority"
For the first time the world human rights body explicitly named Myanmar officials and army officers to be charged with genocide. The U.N. mission found Myanmar's armed forces had forced more than 700,000 Rohingya to flee starting in late August 2017.

"We have over the years had an occasional injury of a child, where they are improperly restrained in a vehicle seat or a booster seat and motivation from seeing that is something that keeps all of us, want to continue to educate parents and the community to keep their kids as safe as they can", Johnson said.

Jankens said if parents are having second thoughts about switching their child's auto seat, they should talk to an expert first. The key is to see what happens with their spine and how the body is absorbing more of the crash effect in a forward facing seat than a rear seat.

Children should remain in rear-facing seats until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by the seat manufacturer.

The change comes after a study that cited data "supported by biometric research, crash simulation data and experience in Europe where children ride rear facing for longer periods" came into question past year.

That was a common complaint with some parents interviewed by WTOL 11; but not enough of a reason for Emily Brown to move her daughter's vehicle seat before she turns four.

Children under the age of 13 should be restrained with seat beats in the back seat, the AAP advises. The new findings are based on child size rather than age. "The orientation of most parents toward milestones for their kids is that the next stage is positive", he says.

In the backseat, five-year-old Dominic faces forward and his 16-month-old brother Joseph, faces the rear.

Hoffman also recognizes now that most seats can accommodate kids until much longer. This is typically when they reach 4 feet 9 inches in height and are 8 to 12 years old.
