Conservative Judge Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed After Heated National Debate

As protesters screamed and banged on the bronze doors of the Supreme Court building, Kavanaugh made his way through the halls inside toward the west conference room, where he swore his oath.

Inside the Senate chambers Saturday, protesters interrupted the final vote numerous times.

Kavanaugh's nomination blew up into a personal and political drama when university professor Christine Blasey Ford accused him of sexually assaulting her in the upstairs bedroom of a home in a wealthy suburb of Washington in 1982. "What she was trying to do was what she thought was the right thing to do as a citizen, which is to provide the information to the U.S. Senate so they could make the most informed decision possible".

Trump is visiting Topeka for a Saturday evening fundraiser and rally for Kris Kobach, the controversial secretary of state running for Kansas governor, and Steve Watkins, the GOP nominee in a key congressional race there. "And I think this gave us the motivation and the opportunity to have the kind of turnout in this off-year election that will help us hold the Senate".

A vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh today is also a vote to send a clear message about what the Senate is.

Republicans called the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe through while Democrats argued agents didn't interview enough witnesses.

Former President George H.W. Bush tweeted support for Collins from Kennebunkport, praising her before the final vote for "political courage and class". That rare procedural maneuver left Kavanaugh with the same two-vote margin he'd have had if Murkowski and Daines had both voted.

More than 14,800,000 votes were cast in the APC primary , said Kayode Fayemi, governor-elect of southwestern Ekiti state. He described President Muhammadu Buhari as clueless, adding that the PDP can not afford to fail at the general election.

"To say that she thinks that Dr. Ford thinks that she was assaulted - what is that?"

According to a recent press release by the Supreme Court of the United States, the Honorable Brett M. Kavanaugh will be sworn in as the 102nd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on October 6, 2018.

Kavanaugh becomes the nation's 114th Supreme Court justice and President Trump's second appointment to the court, creating a conservative majority on the nation's highest court for years to come.

He added, "We were able to establish that the presumption of innocence is still important in this country and that the senate is not going to be intimated by these kind of tactics".

Hirono added that Collins has spoken to assault survivors, suggesting that she should be well aware of the challenges they face in speaking out after suffering in silence.

Allegations of sexual assault raised during senate confirmation hearings dominated headlines and divided the US.

McConnell reiterated his view that the fight over Kavanaugh's confirmation has re-energized the Republican base ahead of next month's midterm elections, thanking Democrats for the newfound enthusiasm.

US First Lady Melania Trump concludes two-day visit to Kenya
In June, the first lady was photographed wearing a jacket emblazoned with the words " I really don't care, do u? " on its back. But Trump declined to directly respond to a question about if she believed Ford , only saying, "I will move on that".

Several polls show that Republican enthusiasm about voting, which had lagged behind, jumped after the Kavanaugh hearing last week.

McConnell even welcomed the acrimony of the political brawl. "My wife was out of town", McConnell said. "It's been a seminal event leading into the fall election".

Democrats have always faced a hard Senate map - six of the competitive seats that they hold are in states Trump won, and five of those states he carried by at least 19 points - but their path now is more treacherous.

Trump, throughout the day, insisted Kavanaugh would not be tainted by the sexual assault allegations from Christine Blasey Ford and others that almost tanked his nomination.

The divide into separate camps has been on vivid display among protesters inside the US Capitol - but it is also playing out more subtly in the rest of the country.

It reflects a high water mark of the Trump presidency: Republican control of the White House, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the judiciary's top court.
