Private messages from 81,000 Facebook accounts advertised for sale by Russian hackers

The hackers allege that they have personal data of over 120 million Facebook account holders, and they are looking to sell it at $0.10 per account.

Several users whose messages were published confirmed to the BBC that the messages were legitimate, although basic data from the 176,000 accounts could feasibly have been acquired without hacking the accounts.

The hackers posted ads, one of which was spotted by the BBC on an English language web forum, offering to sell access to people's accounts for 10 cents each.

The BBC says it contacted 5 users (from Moscow, Belgorod and Perm) affected by the breach, who all confirmed that the texts available online were indeed their private Facebook messages.

Crew, including Canadian, could be heading to space station December 3: Russians
The incident, on 11 October, was the first serious launch problem by a manned Soyuz space mission since 1983. The camera mounted on the rocket showed the moment of a failed separation of the first and second stages.

Facebook is having a bad year for data privacy.

Facebook is in news again, and this time again for a not-so-good reason. Behind the scenes, though, the extension would connect to Facebook and steal information from a victim's logged in account. This typically doesn't include keystrokes, but extensions can sweep in anything rendered on a page for a user to see, such as public and private messages.

The embattled network has had a awful year for data security and questions will be asked about whether it is proactive enough in responding to situations like this that affect large numbers of people. Also, the company had taken preventive steps to prevent other accounts from being hacked.

The BBC had the security company Digital Shadows confirm this theft by analyzing the "samples" posted on these websites. However, the data on them could have been scraped from publicly-available information.

North Korean women suffer serious sexual violence by authorities, report says
Interviewees told the human rights group that government officials harmed them while they were in detention centers. The concept of rape is different in the North, it added, where it is seen as applying only if violence is used.

John Smith did not explain why he had not advertised his services more widely. When asked whether this was related to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, or whether the leaks were linked to the Kremlin, the hacker (s) said no.
