Free Apple repairs over tech issues

We have come to understand there were a significant number of complaints on Apple forums about the non-responsive and sometimes over-sensitive screens in the iPhone X, which never made it to media headlines.

The issues could arise "due to a component that might fail on the display module", Apple said. In previous statements about product glitches it has been quick to say that only a "small percentage" of phones were affected. Apple has not confirmed how many devices are impacted by this problem.

Customers with eligible devices can have both issues fixed for free at an Apple retail store or with an Apple Authorised Service Provider. The company says that the problem can present itself as a display failing to respond to touches, or acting as if it had been touched when in fact it hadn't.

In the case of the iPhone X, Apple is offering free screen replacements for the faulty devices, while it is offering free repairs for the MacBook Pros.

On Apple's support page for the issue, you can check to see if your model (it needs to be 13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt, 3 ports) qualifies for a free fix. The company said it only affects the original iPhone X, which has been superseded by the iPhone XS and XR released this autumn.

Apple warns that a cracked screen or other damage that impairs the fix will need to be fixed before the device is serviced.

Apple did not specify how many iPhone X devices might be affected by this display problem.

Only a limited number of 128GB and 256GB solid-state drives in 13-inch MacBook Pro units sold between June 2017 and June 2018 were affected, Apple said apple.co/2AXkeEw on its website. The company is also sending send an email to customers, who registered their device with Apple, to let them know about this program.
