Quora says 100 million users hacked

About 100 million users of Quora, a popular question-and-answer website, have been affected by a security breach involving a "malicious third party", the company says.

For about 327 million of the total 500 million affected, the compromised information included data such as names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, passport numbers, Starwood Preferred Guest account information, date of birth, gender, arrival and departure information, reservation date and communication preferences. They have not yet provided more information as to what imported data may have been compromised. If you've used Google or Facebook to log in, or you've connected your Quora account with Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, "we receive certain profile and account information about you from the Linked Network".

Quora said, in a statement emailed to members, that they are now investigating exactly how the breach occurred. Quora claims that a low percentage of users have sent or received direct messages.
