Sir David Attenborough Lays Into World Leaders At UN Climate Change Summit

Tackling climate change could save millions of lives, report says

Negotiators from around the world are meeting in Poland for talks on curbing climate change, three years after sealing a landmark deal in Paris that set a goal of keeping global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit). The 20 warmest years on record have all occurred within the last 22 years, and the top four in the past four years, The Guardian noted.

"Right now, we are facing a man-made disaster of global scale", Attenborough began.

Guterres said in order to achieve that, global emissions from 2010 levels to 2030 must be halved.

Delegates were played a montage of messages collected from people around the world.

"Even as we witness devastating climate impacts causing havoc across the world, we are still not doing enough, nor moving fast enough, to prevent irreversible and catastrophic climate disruption", Guterres told representatives from nearly 200 countries gathered in Katowice, Poland.

Guterres called climate change as "the most important issue we face".

The tech site also said it already took steps to "contain the incident" and prevent future unauthorized access to its servers. Quora said , in a statement emailed to members, that they are now investigating exactly how the breach occurred.

Attempting to raise awareness about how bad the situation is, the United Nations invited renowned David Attenborough to take the stage. Time is running out.

The fate of civilisation itself lies squarely in the hands of today's leaders, Sir David Attenborough has warned in a strident address on behalf of the world's peoples.

"At the forefront of the fight against climate change in Africa, the African Development Bank, strongly represented in previous COP summits is, once again, present in Katowice to ensure that the voice of Africa is heard loud and clear in global climate negotiations", the bank said on its website.

The UN's General Assembly chief Maria Espinosa said the choice between the climate or jobs was false. "They want you, the decision markers, to act now. For many people, regions, even countries, this is already a matter of life or death".

He implored governments of the world to take meaningful action steps to prevent our planet's destruction.

"We have a collective responsibility to invest in averting global climate chaos", he said. Andrzej Duda, the president of Poland, spoke at the opening ceremony, saying the use of "efficient" coal technology can be employed to take action on climate change, something which has been described as raising the "middle finger to the climate".

SpaceX postpones rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base
As with previous SpaceX launches from Vandenberg, the rocket created an impressive aerial light show over Southern California. This time around, the retraction jig was visibly stripped and SpaceX technicians did not attempt any leg retractions.

United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres issued a dramatic appeal to world leaders to take the threat of global warming seriously and to act boldly to avert a catastrophic rise in temperatures before the end of the century. "Governments and investors need to bet on the green economy, not the gray".

Host President Argentina's Mauricio Macri kicked off the summit by announcing, "I am an optimist"-and there were certainly some positive strides made at the gathering".

Attenborough also promoted the "ActNow.bot", a Facebook campaign the U.N.is launching that will recommend actions people can take to protect the planet.

Later Sunday, protests were planned by environmental activists calling for an end to coal mining in Poland, which gets some 80 percent of its energy from coal.

The conference was also being sponsored by Polish state-owned coal company JWS, an agreement that Friends of the Earth International called a "middle finger to the climate".
