Why Are Democrats Opposing The Anti-BDS Bill?

Marco Rubio: Rashida Tlaib's Dual Loyality Suggestion 'anti-Semitic'

But as of Tuesday, Republicans said they still expect most Republicans to vote against Democratic bills this week aimed at funding the government without Trump's border wall.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will oppose proceeding to the legislation, according to a senior aide who was unauthorized to speak publicly about the vote and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Key parts of the government shutdown on December 22 after Trump, fellow Republicans and Democrats failed to come to an agreement on the president's demand for more than $5bn in funding for a wall on the US-Mexico border.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy questioned Rubio's assertion that Democrats voted against moving forward with the bill due to a "significant [number] of Senate Democrats [who] now support BDS" and that the party's leaders "want to avoid a floor vote that reveals that".

Meanwhile, Rep. Steve Scalise, the Republican whip, argued Democrats who say the situation at the border is a "fabricated crisis" are operating in a "denial of reality".

But there was no indication that the Republican-controlled Senate would vote on the bill.

Streaming services such as Netflix are able to pay for access to Synamedia's initiative that will grant them the data in question. If caught sharing, users could then be offered a premium service that allows for password sharing and more concurrent users.

Members have just begun introducing legislation, like the massive voting rights, campaign finance and ethics package House Democrats unveiled Friday and legislation they plan to introduce Tuesday tightening background check laws for gun purchases.

But some Senate Republicans, including several who are up for re-election in purple-leaning states, are uncomfortable with the strategy.

Over lunch with Trump and Republican senators at the Capitol Wednesday, moderate Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME both pushed back on the president over his dug-in strategy. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who is also up for re-election in 2020, last week penned an op-ed calling for a comprehensive deal on immigration as a solution to the partial shutdown.

Republicans increased their Senate majority to 53 to 47 in November's elections, but they still needed at least seven Democratic "yes" votes for the act to move ahead.

The Senate voted unanimously last month on spending bills that would keep the government open, with an understanding from the White House that Trump would sign off on the bill. Undeterred, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has filed a motion for a third vote.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., agreed that reopening the government is the main priority but added that the bill itself is an affront to the First Amendment. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and Thomas Carper, D-Del.

United States official warns of recession risk if interest rates go much higher
Before the Fed began buying bonds in the face of the 2007-2009 recession, it had about $900 billion in assets. Even so, US central bankers face a challenging year that's complicating their communication.

"I don't think it makes sense to say I am upset about the government shutdown [but then say] I don't know why we would also shut down the Senate", Rubio said.

Democrats in the US Senate have prevented consideration of a bill on new sanctions against the Syrian government in protest against the ongoing government shutdown.

Those measures include the Financial Services and General Government bill, which funds the IRS, as well as the Interior-Environment, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration and the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development proposals.

The federal pay period is scheduled to end on January 11.

Some lawmakers said the shutdown was not a drag on oversight.

Udall did not want to put a timeline on when he expects his bill to be able to get approved in the Senate but echoed Wertheimer's remarks that passing reform legislation doesn't happen overnight.
