Trump says he has nothing to hide about meetings with Putin

Where the investigations into U.S. President Donald Trump stand

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly took active measures to hide what was discussed in meetings with Russia President Vladimir Putin, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.

According to the report, in a break from standard policy and the practices of former presidents, Trump has denied top advisers detailed information of several meetings with the Russian leader, whom USA agencies have accused of seeking to undermine American democracy.

As a result, US officials said there is no detailed record, even in classified files, of Trump's face-to-face interactions with the Russian leader at five locations over the past two years.

Trump did so after a meeting with Putin in 2017 in Hamburg that was also attended by then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Donald Trump has said he "couldn't care less" after a series of bombshell reports over the weekend shed further light on his relationship with Vladimir Putin. According to the newspaper, law enforcement officials were so concerned they began investigating whether the President was working on behalf of Russian Federation against United States interests.

Administration officials have been unable to glean details of at least three other public interactions between the leaders over the past two years.

"We had a great conversation ..."

The president's secrecy "is not only unusual by historical standards, it is outrageous", Strobe Talbott, former deputy secretary of state under Bill Clinton.

Premier League Tonight column: Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea's youth policy
Bookmakers believe there is a real chance that both William and Hudson-Odoi could leave. But I think what's changed is our opinion of young English players.

Former US officials told the The Washington Post that Trump's behavior is at odds with the known practice of previous presidents, who rely on senior aides to witness such meetings.

The Post's revelation has come one day after a New York Times article reported the FBI had opened an investigation into whether Trump was secretly working on behalf of Russian Federation.

"I meet with every leader...individually".

Commenting on the report, the U.S. president said: "I'm not keeping anything under wraps".

The investigation was subsequently folded into the broader probe by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and possible collaboration by the Trump campaign.

No evidence has publicly emerged in the 20 months since Comey was sacked that indicate Trump is a secret agent, or that he engaged in a criminal conspiracy with the Russian government.

Trump has made a number of decisions during his time as president that have benefitted Putin whilst simultaneously confounding his closest officials and advisors.

Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, told The New Yorker that his first act will be to create a subcommittee tasked with investigating Trump.

United Kingdom risks Brexit paralysis and possibly no Brexit at all: Foreign minister
The Sunday Times says that the plan by backbenchers would see the government lose control of parliamentary business. The UK is due to leave the European Union on 29 March 2019 automatically, whether the deal is passed by MPs or not.

But Trump's behaviour in the days around Comey's May 2017 firing as FBI director, specifically two instances in which he seemed to tie Comey's removal to the Russian Federation investigation, helped trigger the counterintelligence part of the investigation, according to the newspaper. "I think it's the most insulting thing I've ever been asked", he said, without directly answering the question.

"I think it's the most insulting article I've ever had written", Trump said.

Trump denied the allegations.

Investigators led by former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief Robert Mueller are trying to establish whether there was any collusion between Mr Trump's campaign team and the Russian state to help get him elected. The FBI was concerned President Trum could be actively working for Russian Federation.

The White House did not immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment.

Trump also reacted Saturday during a telephone interview broadcast on Fox News Channel after host Jeanine Pirro asked whether he is now or has ever worked for Russian Federation.

Trump's ex-national security advisor, Michael Flynn, has pleaded guilty to lying to investigators about his Moscow ties.
