Reporter Alleges Jill Abramson Lifted Material for Her Book

Multiple sources alleged on Wednesday that former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson violated journalistic ethics by plagiarizing their work in parts of her new book, "Merchants of Truth".

Abramson says that while she had help in pulling the book together, perhaps it wasn't sufficient. Abramson and her publisher, Simon & Schuster, did promise to review the passages in question. When advance galleys of Merchants of Truth circulated three weeks ago, journalists at Vice pointed out that it contained several errors in the section on their media outlet.

One of the passages cited by Moynihan is from a 2005 story in Ryerson Review of Journalism about Vice Media cofounder Gavin Miles: "In August 2003, McInnes wrote a column in The American Conservative, a magazine run by Pat Buchanan".

Silva was guaranteed a title shot by White if he defeats Adesanya at UFC 234 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne this weekend. Now, a year later, history has repeated itself with even worse timing for Dana White .

Others in the media were quick to respond, with some saying the book was "a masterclass in how not to do journalism".

Vice correspondent Michael Moynihan posted a Twitter thread Wednesday listing what he said are several examples of passages in "Merchants of Truth: The Business of News and the Fight for Facts" that closely resemble material in The New Yorker, Time Out and other publications.

"I certainly didn't plagiarize my book", Abramson told Fox News' Martha MacCallum, pointing out that there are "70 pages of footnotes" in the book showing where she got her information.

Twitter shares dive after flagging weaker revenue, higher costs
The company said monetized daily active users (mDAU) have reached 126 million globally, with 27 million of those users in the U.S. Its share of total worldwide digital ad spending is estimated to drop to 0.8% in 2019 from 0.9% in 2018, according to EMarketer .

Overall, she continues to stand by her work.

When asked if there could've been an attribution or footnote issue in the book, the former Times editor replied: "No, I don't think this is an issue at all". "Imagine plagiarizing for a book on ethics - riddled with factual errors - and then calling it 'Merchants of Truth.' Hats off to you @JillAbramson!"

The controversy could become a bit of a black eye for Abramson's current employer, Harvard University, which hired the former Times editor to teach creative writing. Any high schooler knows to show your sources-if you want to reproduce someone's turn of phrase, quote them directly, give them credit in-text, and footnote every idea that came directly from someone else's work. In 2011, she made history as the first woman to be the Times' executive editor, but was sacked three years later amid repeated clashes with colleagues. "Or put in quotations in the book".

But Thursday, in an interview with NPR, she admitted she "fell short". And in the cases that Michael Moynihan cited, there isn't the correct, like, page number for the credited citation. "I'm going to fix those pronto and am determined to make my book flawless and will fix these things as absolutely soon as I can". "He made contributions from beginning to end that made this book possible ... he drafted portions of this book and provided a sharp eye throughout in editing the manuscript", she writes.
