Spotify will now ban accounts using ad-blockers

Spotify takes aim at ad blockers - GSMArena.com news

A proportion of these free users turn to ad blockers, and this is something Spotify has been increasingly trying to clamp down on.

The firm has always been anti-ad blockers. If they upgraded to a premium account or removed their ad-blockers, their accounts would be restored. The new language states that users caught either providing ways to get around advertisements or using these technologies will have their accounts suspended or will be immediately terminated as customers. In August 2018, it was reported that the company has various detection methods in place monitoring consumption on the service.

German split over Russian gas pipeline
Under the compromise agreement, Germany will itself be able to determine the rules under which Nord Stream 2 will operate. Other European companies involved in the project include the Anglo-Dutch Shell, Austria's OMV and France's Engie.

Previous year it was discovered that two million Spotify users had been using unauthorised apps to get around listening to the ads.

"We take the artificial manipulation of streaming activity on our service extremely seriously", the spokesperson told DigiDay. Any account with suspicious or abnormal activity on this front will be red flagged.

Acting attorney general Matthew Whitaker testifies before House Judiciary Committee
There was some curious timing regarding a letter from Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to the House Judiciary Committee . The president himself kept an eye on the proceedings before leaving the White House for his annual physical.

It's hard to blame Spotify for this: users paying for the service and the ads served to free customers contribute to their income (and this is where the money they pay artists and labels comes from).

Spotify is like any other company, with the need to make a profit.

No, Drinking 'Beer Before Wine' Won't Prevent a Hangover, Study Finds
For the study, the researchers divided 90 volunteers, aged 19 to 40, into three groups. The students were split into two groups of 31, as well as a control group of 28.

"This is a win-win: users benefit from an improved experience that allows them to choose the ads they want to engage with", Spotify said at the time of release. In instances where it has found a free user skipping ads, the company has historically sent out warnings to users and, if they continued to use ad-blockers, deactivated accounts until the blockers were removed. For a business the size of Spotify, that's a serious problem.
