Trump sharply criticizes British leader's handling of Brexit

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar speaking at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC during his visit to the US

Trump said it's unlikely the British could take another vote but he would like to see it worked out so the USA could do a "very big trade deal" with the United Kingdom in the future. I think we will stay right in our lane. Parliament voted later in the day to request a delay of the planned March 29 exit.

But despite criticising Mrs May's approach at the negotiating table, Mr Trump reiterated his desire for a strong UK-US trade deal.

Varadkar said that Trump and he each have "a different opinion" of the decision to leave the European Union, and said, "I regret that Brexit's happening".

Trump has previously been critical of May's Brexit deal, warning that it could "kill" a bilateral trade agreement between the USA and the UK.

Teams will be required to designate players as a pitcher or position player before each player's first day on the active roster. The agreement will also limit September call-ups to 28, instead of the current maximum of 40 allowed under the current policy.

The president said he and Varadkar discussed the issue during their Oval Office meeting. Irish leaders say a new formal border would put profitable commerce at risk and invoke the ghosts of the bloody conflicts in Northern Ireland known as the Irish Troubles.

Ireland is at the center of the practical discussion of how Britain would separate itself from the European Union and its open movement of goods and people, because the only affected land border runs between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

After their private meeting, Mr Varadkar said it had been an opportunity for him to set out Ireland's position on Brexit, "particularly when it comes to the peace process".

Mr Trump told reporters he did not believe a second Brexit referendum could be justified, saying it would be "unfair" to the 52 percent of Britons who voted Leave.

"I predicted it was going to happen, and I was right".

Trump's news conference at his Turnberry golf course in Scotland took place the day after the Brexit referendum - once the results were already known.

Asked if he thinks the Brexit deadline should be extended, Mr Trump said: "I think they are probably going to have to do something because right now there are in the midst of a very short period of time, at the end of the month and they are not going to be able to do that".

On Thursday MPs voted 413 to 202 - a majority of 211 for Mrs May to ask the European Union for a delay to Brexit. "I think it could have been negotiated in a different manner". We want to make sure there is trade between Britain and Ireland.

And if that is turned down MPs will have a third vote in three days on whether to extend Article 50 and delay Brexit. Britain could not unilaterally pull out - something that caused Brexit-backing MPs to vote down the deal in January.

"And I don't believe my country is the only one in the world where this story is possible". He said: "If they don't talk to us, we're going to do something pretty severe economically".
