Facebook imposes new restrictions on livestreaming to prevent abuse following Christchurch attacks

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern with French President Emmanuel Macron with whom she is hosting the summit

The text of the initiative outlines "collective, voluntary commitments" from governments and internet companies.

Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, a member of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told reporters, "I think everybody agrees that a higher level of responsibility is demanded from all of the platforms".

Dialogue with the U.S. was ongoing, she added.

French President Emmanuel Macron and New Zealand premier Jacinda Ardern are hosting other world leaders and leading tech chiefs on Wednesday to launch a new initiative aimed at curbing extremism online.

"The March 15 terrorist attack highlighted just how easily lives treaming can be misused for hate".

"As an industry, tech companies created new services to bring out the best - not the worst - in people", Smith wrote. They'll also form incident management teams to respond in moments of crisis, like Christchurch.

HTC announces plans for the Exodus 1s, a cheaper blockchain smartphone
Initially, customers could only purchase the device with crypto, however, in February, HTC opened up fiat payment options. The same full node functionality is coming to the Exodus 1 as well, apparently, but that phone will need an SD card.

Two months after the mass shooting at a mosque in New Zealand was live-streamed by the accused gunman on Facebook, the company is introducing new rules for the feature.

The document "outlines collective, voluntary commitments from governments and online service providers meant to address the issue of terrorist and violent extremist content online and to prevent the abuse of the internet as occurred in and after the Christchurch attacks".

World leaders and heads of global technology companies have pledged at a Paris summit to tackle terrorist and extremist violence online in what they described as an "unprecedented agreement".

Other members of the meeting included Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

That includes sharing the effects of their commercially-sensitive algorithms to develop effective ways to redirect users away from dark, single narratives.

The White House will not be joining the call to action but is supportive of its premise, according to The Washington Post.

Magnitude 6.1 natural disaster strikes near Panama-Costa Rica border
A 6.1 magnitude natural disaster is considered a "strong" quake, and can cause extensive damage in populated areas. Seismological Survey (USGS) measured the quake at 6.1 and said it struck at a depth of 37 kilometers (23 miles).

The companies said they would also commit to publishing "transparency reports" on the detection and removal of terror or violent extremist content.

"Today's announcement addresses a key component of the Christchurch Call, a shared commitment to making live streaming safer". It will bear the signatures of more than a dozen nations, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

These are the same five funds that joined together after the March 15 terror attack to collectively pressure social media companies to "fulfil their duty of care to prevent harm to their users and to society".

They promised investments in "digital fingerprinting" to track and remove harmful pictures and videos, and easy-to-use methods for users to report illicit content.

Top executives from Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Twitter were also expected to attend, though Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg was to be represented by another executive from the social media giant.

The White House is not endorsing a global pledge to step up efforts to keep internet platforms from being used to spread hate, organize extremist groups and broadcast attacks, citing respect for "freedom of expression and freedom of the press".
